Premier Wen Jia Bao

c/o The Embassy of the PeopleÕs Republic of China

2300 Connecticut Avenue

Washington, DC 20005

Dear Premier Wen Jia Bao:

We write to you on behalf of our son, Dr. Wang Bingzhang on the occasion of your visit to the United States as an ambassador of goodwill and as the new leader of a great nation.

Dr. Wang was sentenced to life imprisonment in China last February for crimes he did not commit. Since then he has been placed in solitary confinement, and separated from those he loves mostÑ his parents, his sisters and brother, and most of all, his children. Though his family members try to travel to China as often as possible to visit him, the strain of separation and the long distance has taken a toll on all of us. It has almost become unbearable.

Premier Wen, we are now old. Our health is not good and we are very frail. We cannot travel to visit our son. As things stand now, we will never see him again. Because of this, we are broken-hearted.  It is our most fervent prayer that you will show compassion on himÑon us-- and release him from prison. We have one last wish: to see our son before we die. Is this too much to ask?

Premier Wen, our son is a good man. He is also a peace-loving man. Indeed, he is a patriot. He loves his country above all things. Though his politics differ from yours, he is, and always will be, a true son of China.

Premier Wen, please intervene on our sonÕs behalf-- show mercy on him. His health is poor and it is increasingly deteriorating. Please open the prison gates and set him free. If you do, we believe the world will always respect you for your magnanimity.

We wish you well in your travels around the world and eagerly await your response.

Sincerely,

Wang Jun Zhen, Wang Gui Fang
